Horseshow Rules

Show will begin at 9:00 am promptly with Judged Events.  Speed will follow the end of the judged events.

 

General Rules

 

  1. A current negative coggins for each horse brought onto grounds must be presented.
  2. There will be a $1.00 grounds charge for each horse.
  3. If you are in doubt because of the weather, please call 985-852-1457 / 985-860-5159 / 985-856-4429
  4. The AQHA Rule Book will be used as a guide for all shows.
  5. Refunds will be given for bad weather or obvious injury to horse or rider only for events not yet competed in.  The Board Members or Judge has the right to decide if the horse or rider is capable to compete.  No refunds for scratching an event.
  6. The riding order will be announced before each class.  When it’s your turn to run, your name will be called three times. If you are not attempting to enter the gate when your name is called for the third time, you will be scratched.  It is the rider’s responsibility to have help with problem horses.
  7. If you break the pattern or knock down an obstacle, you may finish the pattern from the point of error, but not restart the pattern.  You may re-run at the end of the class by paying an exhibition fee.  If you circle an obstacle more than the times permitted, you will be assessed a $5.00 fine. (Strictly Enforced)
  8. Equipment failure or a rider falling is not a reason for a re-ride.  If a horse broadsides (Horse must go down on its side) a re-run will be granted.
  9. Judged and speed points are kept separately.
  10. Horse show awards will be bought in accordance with amount of money taken in from horse shows.
  11. All year end winners will be required to work a total of 8 hours at the shows to be eligible for year end awards. It is your responsibility to make sure you sign up at entry booth for a particular work spot. Ex: setting up barrels, poles, any obstacle, etc…or working the in & out gate for the entire (all classes) event will count as an hour. Working in the concessions stand will be counted for however many hours you actually work.
  12. If any contestant does not work their total of 8 hours, they're eligible to buy their hours at the end of the horse show series. It will be $10.00 per hour (strictly enforced).
  13. Any person competing in the horse shows must be a member of the Lafourche Roping Club. Memberships fees are as follows: Individual $10.00 (18 or older) Family $20.00 (member, spouse and any childern under the age of 18 living in the household). Anyone under the age of 18 must purchase a family membership with their parents signature.***You are eligible for a key to the arena…see the Lafourche Roping Club’s by-laws for more information.***
  14. Event winners will be given ribbons for 1st through 5th place.
  15. High Point End of Day Division winners will receive prizes will be award from 1st to 5th places. They will be able to pick a prize out of a box at the end of the day.  

 

 

Judged Events

 

  1. Judged event divisions will be: Youth 17 & Under, Senior (ages 18 and over)         (ages as of 4/26/08)
  2. Judged Events will be:  Walk Trot, Western Pleasure, Western Riding and Reining (youth and senior)
  3. Proper attire will be required for all judged events.  This will consist of long sleeved western shirts, boots, western hat or helmet.  Sport laced riding tennis shoes are not allowed in judged events.  Lace up ropers and slip on boots with heels are the only riding boots allowed and chaps are optional.  Proper equipment is required according to the AQHA rule book.
  4. Entry fees will be $5 per event.
  5. End of day ties will be settled by the most 1st places won. If there’s still a tie, then it will be determined by flip of a coin.
  6. End of day high point will be given to the top 5 placers in each division.

 

 

Speed Events

 

  1. Speed Event divisions will be:  Lead Line (anyone being lead around the patterns), Peanut (ages 8 and under), Pee Wee (ages 9 -13) , Junior (ages 14-17)   Senior (ages 18 and over)     (ages as of 4/26/08)
  2. Speed Events will be:  Barrels, Texas Barrels, Arena Race, Poles and Stakes.
  3. The entry fee in speed will be $5 per event.
  4. If a rider enters the arena with a hat and the hat falls off, there will be a 5 second penalty.
  5. Only riding boots or riding shoes with a heel will be allowed.  T-shirts may be worn.
  6. Persons entering speed events for practice will not be awarded points and will be placed at the end of the riding order of their class.  Exhibitions riders are to pay a $3 exhibition fee per ride, per event. 
  7. End of day ties will be settled by the most 1st places won. If there’s still a tie, it will be determined by the flip of a coin.
  8. End of day high point will be given to the top 5 placers in each division.



Points

 

Points will be awarded as follows:

 

5 or more riders   – 1st = 7,   2nd =5,   3rd =4,   4th = 3,   5th =2

4 riders in a class – 1st = 6,   2nd =4,   3rd = 3,   4th = 2

3 riders in a class – 1st = 5,   2nd = 3,   3rd = 2

2 riders in a class – 1st = 4,   2nd = 2

1 rider in a class  – 1st = 3

There will be one point awarded to each non-placer in each event.
